Farewell, good sir.

Today I got some bad news. A friend and colleague had a heart attack last night and passed away. The office is just numb about it. He was a gentleman, a great professional and the kind of boss that was well liked by his team for both his compassion and his leadership. I feel truly sorry for his young family.

Death is a strange thing. We spend our lives avoiding dealing with it or thinking about it which leaves us unprepared and unsure how to behave when we are confronted by it. Likewise, grief is a strange emotion. It sucks optimism and hope from you and leaves you with an emptiness that can only really be consciously avoided until time soothes the pain.

I guess the only thing that you can focus on is the reminder that life is short and every day should not be taken for granted and instead lived to the full. I'll try to bear that in mind in the foreseeable future and beyond.

Rest in peace Asif.
